Legos & Marbles

Legos & Marbles

Here is a challenge for you.  Take some Lego pieces and ask a child to build something.  You don’t need too many……just the amount that would fit into a Ziplock sandwich bag.  Don’t give them any ideas of what to build.  You will likely see an excited look on their face as they plan their construction project.  Leave them on their own for 10-15 minutes and I guarantee that when you come back they will show you something you did not expect.  You might end up with a small house, a space ship, or maybe even an x-wing fighter from Star Wars.   They will probably describe in great detail how each piece was used for a specific purpose.

Now give that same child a similar amount of marbles and ask them to complete the same task.  Ask them to build something.  You will likely get a very different look on their face……confusion perhaps.

  • “Build something out of marbles?!”
  • “You can’t build anything out of just marbles!!”
  • “They are all the same size and shape…….they do not fit together.  What am I supposed to build with these?”

Exactly my point.

What does the Bible say about each of us?  Look at Ephesians 2:10 - For we are God’s workmanship (or handiwork or creation) created in Christ Jesus to do good works which God prepared in advance for us to do.  He created us, and our students in particular, with a purpose……..we are his masterpiece.  At Bangor Christian Schools, it is our desire that students discover God’s plan for their lives.  We want to equip them for success on whatever path He is leading.  We recognize that each student has specific gifts and abilities…….in a way, they are like Lego pieces…….each designed by the creator of the universe for a specific purpose.
