An educational and spiritual foundation is prepared in a nurturing environment. Our caring and gifted teachers help young students develop a love of learning that will last a lifetime. The elementary teaching team has over 100 years of combined teaching experience that has resulted in our students consistently scoring above the national average in standardized testing. Every part of the elementary program focuses on preparing students with a Biblical worldview and a love for Jesus Christ.
Weekly chapel services provide students with an opportunity to worship God together and each teacher takes time daily to pray with students in the classroom. We encourage our students to put others first by participating in service projects throughout the school and in our communities. Each year students pack shoe boxes with gifts for children in other parts of the world through a program called Operation Christmas Child. Fifth grade students are paired up with pre-kindergarten students for reading and mentoring. Our students raise money each spring for cancer research through a program called Pennies for Patients. They have also made and delivered thank you cards to police officers and veterans. It is important for them to recognize the needs of others.
We believe that active learning in the elementary grades prepares each student for future success. Our students learn through activities where they can create, discover, explore and investigate everything God has given us. For example, our prekindergarten students care for monarch butterflies through all four stages of development before releasing them back to nature. Our fifth grade students produce a living art museum that incorporates the life story of several famous painters as well as re-creations of their work. Our third grade students learn about bike safety by bringing their bikes to school for a day and practicing lessons in the parking lot. Field trips are educational with the goal of helping students understand God and his creation.
There are many other programs and services offered in the Elementary School. Students can learn to play an instrument in the beginner band and transition to the intermediate band as their skill develops. Private music lessons are available during and after school. Students may also choose to sing in the elementary chorus. Annual Christmas and spring concerts provide great opportunities to perform for friends and family. Our pee-wee sports program provides instruction in soccer during the fall and basketball and cheering during the winter. We have a full-time guidance counselor on staff who develops specialized instruction plans for students that need additional support and we offer speech and language therapy through the Bangor School Department for qualified students.
