Our comprehensive and rigorous curriculum designed from a Biblical worldview, combined with competitive athletics and arts programs, provides our students with essential opportunities to actively pursue God's plan for their lives.
The high school teaching team has over 75 years of combined teaching experience that has resulted in our students consistently scoring above the national average in standardized testing. Over 90% of our students attend university or college after graduation. Every part of the high school program focuses on understanding God, His creation and His purpose for humanity, leading students to accept their responsibility for each.
Weekly chapel services provide an opportunity to worship God together with a student led worship team. Weekly Bible studies are offered during lunch time and each day begins with student led prayer. We encourage our students to put others first by participating in service projects throughout the school and in our communities. Students have collected and delivered clothing to local shelters, volunteered time to organize shelves at a local thrift shop and served in a local nursing home. Through the National Honor Society, our students raise money each spring for cancer research through a program called Pennies for Patients. They have participated in a 6k run to raise awareness and funds for clean water in developing countries. It is important for them to recognize the needs of others.
We recognize that active learning in the high school prepares each student for success in life. Our students learn through activities where they can create, discover, explore and investigate everything God has given us. For example, art students have created original paintings and murals which are displayed prominently throughout the school. Biology students increased their environmental awareness related to river ecology and water quality as part of an annual field trip on the Penobscot River. Leadership opportunities are provided through Student Council, National Honor Society, and Fellowship of Christian Athletes. These opportunities help students discover God's plan for their lives.
There are many other programs and services offered in the high school. Music options include intermediate and advanced band, chorus, as well as private music lessons. A drama class performs an annual musical or play each spring. Our students compete in seven varsity sports through the Maine Principal's Association including soccer, cross country, basketball, cheering, track, baseball and softball. We also have cooperative agreements with other high schools for sports such as indoor track, swimming and diving. We have an international program that attracts students from other countries and provides an opportunity for local students to learn about different cultures. We have a full-time guidance counselor on staff who develops specialized instruction plans for students that need additional support. Students at Bangor Christian can also take courses at Husson University, the University of Maine and Eastern Maine Community College during their junior and senior years.
